The Ultimate Move-Out Checklist (Part 2)

Congratulations! It’s finally moving day! You’ve done your research, found the right location, budgeted and more, and the time has come to move into your new abode. This is an extremely exciting time, but in order for everything to run smoothly there are a couple of things you need to remember to do, and some things to do that’ll make this new space feel like a home.

Section 2: During the Move

  • Give your place a clean. Before you relocate any of your belongings to your home, be sure to make sure everything is clean. There’s nothing better than finishing the move and being able to relax in your sparkly, clean, neat new place.

  • Take photos. This is so you have evidence of the condition of the home before you moved in. This will help in case there are any disputes when your lease finishes, and so you can get your security bond back.

  • Creepy Crawlers. Have a good look around to make sure there are no signs of infestations. If there are, alert your landlord or property manager as soon as possible.

  • Smoke alarms. It’s incredibly important to ensure your smoke alarms are working as soon as you move in. These should already be working, but there is not harm in checking.

  • Utilities. It’s time to connect your gas, electricity, and wifi. Make sure you do your research to ensure you’re getting the best deal.

Section 3: After the Move

It’s not quite over just yet. There are still a couple of things to do after the big moving day. These are just the final touches that will officially make this new house your home.

  • Address changes on major documents. Be sure to update your address on your driver’s license, electoral enrolment, with you bank, and on other important documents and institutions.

  • Register your pets. If you brought any pets with you, be sure to register them and know where your local veterinarian clinic is.

  • Find out your bin days. Figure out which days your bins are collected, when it’s recycling day, etc.

Now, it’s time for the fun part; enjoying your new home! From the team at Aurora, if you’ve just moved out for the first time, we wish you the very best and hop you enjoy the start of this exciting new journey.
