However, there’s no point pouring money into fantastic renovations that you won’t get to enjoy, or that won’t add that extra return to the house. The two places that add instant value to your property, and can be renovated relatively cheaply are kitchens and bathrooms. Some new cabinetry and tapware can really add a new feel, added with a fresh lick of paint and you’re good to go.
Speaking of paint, a fresh coat can bring back the life to a house, making it feel fresh and new. By using neutral colours for the interior and even exterior can give the illusion of a newly renovated home, and is easy to maintain for years.
For any other renovations on the home, it is incredibly important to go for a ‘timeless’ look. By opting for an ultra modern look, you are running the risk that the renovations will date quickly and turn buyers off paying extra for the property. At the end of the day, buyers don’t want to be replacing fixtures and features, or repainting over modern accent walls in six months time. Stay away from ‘on trend’ that may be deemed tacky in a short period of time, and stick to neutral and timeless.
Renovations can be a great idea to bring a house up to date and add value, however it’s important to be careful and selective as to what you change. There’s no point putting lots of money into renovations, and getting nothing back to show for it.
